This paper is consuming my life.

Yet another weekend has come and gone. Tomorrow is supposed to be a rainy Monday. How can it rain on Halloween? All those kiddos need their candy! It's sugar season!
I'm supposed to take the three little girls I nanny for trick-or-treating so I really hope it doesn't rain, they'll be very, pero muy, disappointed.

This week is looking full:
*Monday is consumed with homework, working, and nannying. And praying that it doesn't rain.

*Have to go to Dallas on Tuesday. Oh yeah, and turn in my English paper.

*It's Sophomore Spotlight week, and I actually have to attend the talks/activities becuase of one of my classes.

*Thursday I have a Spanish AND*********** Psychology test. Yuck. But then it's off to Arkansas to visit my high school best friend, Kayse. :-) So that should be fun! I love road trips!

So we ended up being Adam and Eve. My roommate, Rachel, was Little Miss Muppet. (I think that's how you spell it?)

look for the hot light

i just ate two krispy kreme original glazed donuts. wow. so much sugar in the morning! and i came to class with a stomach ache! i wonder how i'll feel in 30 minutes. how much calories was that?! (400 in two glazed) haha being a college student is great. (thanks for the donuts, jason!)
Fun Facts:
A typical Krispy Kreme store produces more than 3,000 donuts per hour.

In about 22 seconds, Krispy Kreme can produce enough donuts to make a stack as high as the Empire State Building.

The latest craze for donuts is serving Krispy Kreme at your wedding!

Krispy Kreme stores across North America produce more than 7.5 million donuts per day and make more than 2.7 billion donuts per year.

aiyiyi

I feel like there is so much to get done! I'm still working on my rough draft and it still is pretty sh*tty! I did enjoy the skit assignment; I had a fun time creating the characters. I personally think Kinky has some good ideas but if he becomes governor, it will be a madhouse. He's responses to things are crazy! He always reminds people that he's a Jew. He is just weird! But defniately a good laugh.

What does everyone think about this weather? I went home this past weekend for my older sister's birthday, so I got to go see our horses. They were so frisky because of the cold wind! But my horse has bad arthiritis and the cold didn't help his hind legs. Blanket time!

Halloween is a week from today! That is really exciting! Especially since the parties start on Thursday. I figured out my costume. My boyfriend and I are going to be Adam and Eve. It really cracks me up.

Well, everyone have a good one. See you in class tomorrow!

personally, this is hilarious

Bud Light Presents: Today we salute you, Mr. Constant Collar Putter Upper. You, bedecked in popped collar, teach us that we no longer have to live with a cold, back of the neck. Sure, your Pink alligator polo may look feminine to some, but not to the 17 other queer frat guys wearing the same thing at the bar. Where others may see thoughtless fashion conformity, you preach a higher gospel. You preach of a world where it's okay for a man to go tanning. You ask "why can't we wear make-up, and use shampoo with lavender essence?" So crack open an ice-cold Bud Light, you fashion gladiator, because we all know, when we really need a piece of gum, you might have one...in your man purse. "when the collar pops, the panties drop"

Life in General

Today started off wonderful. Little did I know, last April or May when I was signing up for my classes for this Fall Semester, I signed up for a Basic Communications class that was only 8 weeks long. How exciting! The 8 weeks ending this morning, when I took my final, and I got an A! I'm really excited that I don't have to wake up for that 9AM MWF anymore.. now let's find a way to ban 8AMs. (Just Kidding Jason)
I went to the homecoming parade tonight. I love parades. Back at home, we always had a Christmas parade and I always dressed up as a snowman. It was cute. I am already looking forward to Christmas. I just love the atmosphere everywhere, especially at the mall. I like how they decorate. And of course, my family and I always go driving around looking at how people decorated their houses. I'm ready for that month off of college.
I've been sick lately and am currently on all types of medicine so I'm feeling a little loopy. Being sick in college is so much harder than being sick in high school. (I'm sure everyone else agrees.)
My best guy friend passed away last November. It was really hard and that one year mark is coming up. It still doesn't feel right. You know, it always hits "close to home" like one of your friends loses a friend but never you. It was the week before Thanksgiving break last year, and so hard to come back. Most of the time now I can see the upside of it (if there is one) but it still just seems not real.
On a lighter note, I'm going to see *In Her Shoes* tonight with Cameron Diaz. I hope its good, I'll let yall know!

kids say the darndest things

Remember the kids I told yall about that I nanny for? Well, okay, I'll refresh your memory. India and Eliza are twins, 3 1/2. Their baby sister is Lillie, and she is 1 1/2. I usually take them out every monday and we go to the mall or chuck e. cheese or chic fil a, something along those lines. Well, about a month ago, in the mall's restrooms, India, Lillie, and I were waiting for Eliza to finish up. There was this overweight lady in there, and she was talking to India. Well, as soon as the lady said, "You have ver nice children" India blurts our REAL LOUD, "You have a big stomach!" As she says this, I am washing Eliza's hands, and I see Eliza start to repeat India, and I slap her mouth holding it shut. How embarrassing. But isn't it funny how kids say what other people think? So innocent.
So I thought that was over, Eliza told me it was not nice to hold her mouth shut, I told both of the them it was not nice to tell people they had big tummies. The end. Or so I thought.
The next week we were at Chuck E. Cheese and of course here comes another overweight lady, and I look at the twins and they blurt those dreaded words out. I'm so embarrassed yet want to laugh because it's just so funny. And sad. They don't realize thats a no-no. So I give them a lecture how if they feel the need to tell me about someone they see with a big tummy, then wait till we get home. So their new motto was, "We don't say people have big tummies, we wait till we get home".
Okay, last night, at the mall, in the restroom again, waiting for Eliza to finish, and there is this obese lady standing in the bathroom. She's holding a very small baby in her arms. Of course, it's India, the outspoken twin, who is standing with me. Well, Lillie, who doesn't talk, points to the lady and I say "yes, look at the cute baby. Shhh let's be quiet" trying to redirect India's attention to the baby and not the "big tummy". I guess I kinda succedded, India states loud and clear, "Hey Les, we don't say big tummies, right?" Oh, what now. I just said "You're right India."
Okay, last part. No more big tummies talks. While we're walking through the food court on our way to my car, there is a lady in front of us. She's thin, long blonde hair, and you can tell she has on nylons. Her sweatshirt is so long (and her shorts must have been so short) that you coudn't tell she was wearing anything on her bottoms at all. Eliza says, "Hey Les, why does that girl not have on anything?" I said, with a smile, "I don't know, why don't you go ask her?" Luckily, Eliza is the shy one.

Sheppard Air Force Base

Three Day Weekends... me gusta

well, another successful three day weekend. i'd like more of those to come around. friday started out with the tx state fair. My friends and I all went... the weather started off really cold and miserable, but warmed up nicely. Of course we ate the fair food (but i did not eat a funnel cake or fried oreo). Where do they come up with those things? I even saw an advertisement for a fried peanut butter banana and jelly sandwich. yuckkkkk-uck. but anyway, i had a fletcher corn dog, candy apple, cotton candy, roasted corn, and frito pie. i didn't eat for a long time after friday. haha.

friday night i went and saw my little brother march in my high school football game (they are currelntly 6-0, when they were 5-0 that was a school record! exciting!) it was good, i'm really starting to like football now that i am actually taking the time to learn the rules. :-)
Saturday, my friend Alicia, and I went to visit her brother who is stationed in Wichita Falls, Tx, at the Air Force Base. There was an air show and it was very interesting! I had fun and although it really wasn't hot, i got a little sunburn because there was not a cloud in the sky! that's how i like my saturdays!

Sunday was filled with endless homework, i'm sure a lot of yall can relate. i think i'm going to enjoy the research for our next paper.. i'm glad we get to pick what we want to write about, gives us something that will spice up our composition class. ha.
anyway, hope everyone had an amazing and safe weekend! see everybody in class tomorrow--

Unit I Reflection

I was surprised how my research evolved. My first question was just kind of blah, and it could have been answered in many different ways. But surprisingly, as I analyzed my case studies, four specific things came screaming out at me, answering my proposed question. I really struggled with how I should say, “Look, these are my opinions, and yours will probably (and most likely) be different.” I struggled with how to show my credibility without saying, “these are the final answers and nobody else’s opinions are correct.”
While researching, I learned how information just kind of falls in to your hands. Or more, my hands. I really struggled with writing though. I felt it important to introduce what I was talking about, like a speech, but Jason wasn’t so cool on that style of writing. So I really had to get creative with my wordings, but I think I pulled through.
The value of case study methodology is very important because it involves real life. All the blogs I analyzed were written by real people. None of the blogs were Cinderella fairy tales. I really appreciated and enjoyed the three case studies I looked at. They made me feel more comfortable about myself. Besides, who else puts their sh*t on blast?! Ha-ha.
If I had to start over with this project, I would have chosen my blogs more carefully. I had to do some revising because one of my blogs just wasn’t working for what I was asking. I switched from Opinionista to Dooce. But it really worked out in the end; Dooce had a lot to offer me concerning my methodology. I wish we would have worked on wordings instead of just introducing what we were supposed to talk about. Let me make this clear, I was confused on how to start paragraphs without blatantly stating what I was going to talk about. In some cases, I felt it necessary to state this, but in others, I understood why Jason didn’t want us writing like that.
For students next semester, I think an analysis focusing on music would be cool to do case studies with. Currently, my roommate is writing a paper on music and race, and I find it fascinating. I also think that they should do something like a blog, you know, something very up to date. It helps the “sheltered” people get out more! But I did enjoy this topic and I am glad our first paper was on it. I think I can speak for almost everyone in the class; the blogosphere is an entertaining and wild world!

My Abstract!!

My proposed question was “what makes a blog successful?” I wondered about this because there are so many different types of blogs in the blogosphere. I wanted to know what a blogger does to attract readers, consciously or subconsciously. For my case studies, I followed and then analyzed three blogs, Waiter Rant, Parents Behaving Badly, and Dooce. I chose these three in hopes of finding something different about each that drew their audience back. I mentioned, for intent of unanswered questions that an interview could be done to achieve more information, but that my answers were quality answers to my proposed question, even if they were my strict opinion. In conclusion, I found that a successful blog contains links, a sense of friendship, humor, and credibility. All three of my case studies had this in common.

Yogi's Bagels... Yogi Bear?

Today, I went to Yogi’s Bagels for brunch. My roommate, Rachel, was heading out the door to meet her parents there and invited me. Although I had never been, I had heard great things about this place from numerous people, so I decided to give it a shot. We got there and it was PACKED. Let me tell you, I believe they were way over their posted occupancy. Anyway, we quickly got in line as I searched for a menu. But since I had never been there, I had to read the entire thing; I was totally not given enough time and that upset me. So I just ordered granola with strawberries and bananas. This dish was AMAZING, I really enjoyed it. But as I watched other people’s food be served, I quickly wished I had ordered something else. Their French toast looked to die for, and their blueberry pancakes resembled heaven. I tried some of my roommate’s mom’s breakfast burrito, which was great. So, I liked Yogi’s, and I can’t wait to go back. But this time, I plan on going at a time where it won’t be so busy and I can take my time searching through the menu. I do recommend this restaurant, for all those who don’t like breakfast foods, they have amazing looking salads and sandwiches!
